FAQS (TEACHERS)

What is the Austin Energy All-Stars Program?

The Austin Energy All-Stars Program was developed to teach students easy ways to use energy more efficiently in their homes. Program content supports Texas (TEKS) Academic State Standards so you can easily integrate the program into your existing classroom curriculum.

What is included in the Austin Energy All-Stars Program?

The Austin Energy All-Stars Program includes a teacher book filled with lesson plans and engaging activities that can be used inside and outside of the classroom. Each teacher and student will receive an individual Student Guide, Student Workbook, and an Austin Energy All-Stars Kit. The kit includes energy efficient products that will help students implement classroom lessons at home. Kit items include:

  • 9-watt LED
  • 7-Plug Advanced Power Strip
  • Digital Thermometer
What are the participation requirements?
Participation requirements are minimal. All we ask in return for your participation in the program is that your students complete a short Student Survey. The Student Survey contains a pre- and post-program quiz. Survey responses help gauge the knowledge gained by each student during the program. If your students take a pledge to be energy efficient and return their Student Surveys, each student will receive an Austin Energy Certificate of Achievement! A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope is provided in your Teacher Materials.
Is there an enrollment deadline?
There are a limited number of kits available for each school year. If you are interested in participating, please enroll now!
Is there a cost to participate in the Austin Energy All-Stars Program?
There is no cost to you, your students, or your school district to participate in the Austin Energy All-Stars Program. Franklin Energy develops and implements the Austin Energy All-Stars Program on behalf of Austin Energy.
Are there a maximum number of kits for each class?
One kit will be provided for each student enrolled in your class. There is not a maximum number of kits for each class; however, there are a limited number of kits for each school year. When this maximum number of kits has been reached, no more classrooms will be able to participate until the following school year.
If I enroll in the program how will my school benefit?
Your school will get to work with Austin Energy on a select program that can make an impact in your community. In addition to teaching lessons that promote sensible use of energy, each participating teacher will receive a $50 mini-grant for their classroom when 80 percent of their student surveys are completed and returned.
Who is Austin Energy?
Austin Energy is the nation’s eighth largest publicly-owned electric utility and a department of the City of Austin. Austin Energy’s mission is to safely deliver clean, affordable, reliable energy and excellent customer service. For more information, please click here.
What do I do if an LED Light Bulb breaks?
LED Light Bulbs do not contain hazardous materials, and therefore can safely be disposed of the same way you would dispose of a broken glass. However, 95% of a LED Light Bulb is recyclable, so recycling your LED Light Bulbs is the best way to dispose of them. Simply call your local Waste Management Company to learn the recycling policy in your area, or visit your local home improvement store – most will do the recycling for you!
